The Milton Ulladulla bypass project has reached a milestone as the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI) released the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the project. The concept design is also released for community feedback.
The EIS is on public exhibition from Monday 21 September to midnight Monday 19 October 2026 and feedback is welcome from the community and stakeholders.
A major element of the Princes Highway Upgrade Program, the Milton Ulladulla bypass project will provide a 12-kilometre bypass to the west of the Milton and Ulladulla town centres, delivering safer and more reliable journeys on the NSW South Coast. It is identified as a priority project in Transport’s 20-year plan and is considered a state significant infrastructure (SSI) project.
The project was first announced in May 2019 and community consultation in 2020 and 2021 helped inform the development of the preferred strategic corridor options.
SEATS identified this bypass of Milton and Ulladulla in its first iteration of Priority Projects in 1996 as part of the corridor between Lakes Entrance and Wollongong that required upgrading. SEATS advocated for the upgrading of several congestion points along the Princes Highway to significantly reduce travel times and ease congestion, particularly during peak holiday times.
The bypass will also improve the liveability and appeal of Milton and Ulladulla town centres, while providing a safe, efficient and reliable road network. It will also improve freight corridors to centres on the far south coast, bringing significant benefits to road users and communities.
SEATS will now examine the documents in detail to ensure that the freight task is being improved both for origins & destinations within the Milton Ulladulla area itself and for the freight vehicles moving up and down the Princes Highway and make a submission accordingly.
