SEATS prepares its advocacy document for the 2026 Victorian election.
It features six (6) projects on the Princes Highway corridor and one on the South Gippsland Highway.
Along the Princes Highway projects include:
- Planning for Traralgon’s Future Transport Needs
- Sale Alternate Truck Route
- Warragul/Drouin Arterial Roads Freeway Access – Funded study to determine work required to eliminate bottlenecks
- Digital Data Transfer on remote highways
- Princes Highway Longwarry/Nar Nar Goon section
- Mitchell River Bridge Bairnsdale – Increase provision from 2 to 4 lanes
For the Leongatha Heavy Vehicle Alternate Route on the South Gippsland Highway, SEATS is requesting a Victorian Government commitment to undertake essential planning of Stage 2 of the Leongatha HVAR by 2028 and a further commitment to complete construction by 2034.
An idea of a bypass of Traralgon has been discussed for more than 50 years. Delays in planning and developing the bypass are mostly due to the town’s proximity to Loy Yang mine and changes to the brown coal energy industry.
A Traralgon Bypass is a vital step toward a safer, more efficient transport network that supports the region’s growth. Latrobe Council also needs certainty about the route of the bypass in order.
SEATS is seeking the Victorian Government commit to the allocation of up to $5million to deliver Planning and Development Approvals for the Traralgon Bypass by 2030. SEATS sees the construction of the Traralgon Bypass as a jointly funded project by the Australian and Victorian governments. It will:
- Improve safety and amenity for residents
- Reduce congestion in the town centre
- Save time for 16,000 drivers daily
- Support freight, public transport and active travel
- Boost business and industry attractiveness
- Provide cost savings for transport operators and local businesses
- Open up tourism and supply chains to eastern Gippsland and beyond
