Construction progressing on Mount Ousley Interchange on M1

The Australian and NSW Governments are investing in a new interchange on the M1 Princes Highway at the base of Mount Ousley to improve connectivity, safety and efficiency for those travelling through the gateway to Wollongong and the Illawarra-Shoalhaven Region.

The allocation of funding from the Australian and NSW Government for the Mt Ousley interchange early in 2023 was strongly supported by SEATS in the interest of delivering:

  • Improved safety for motorists and pedestrians
  • Easing congestion and improving traffic flow.

Extensive vegetation removal, including mulching, will commence on the southern side of the M1 Princes Motorway near the University of Wollongong in late-March and is expected to continue into May, weather permitting.

Around 5.5 hectares of vegetation will need to be removed between the M1 Princes Motorway and the University of Wollongong to allow the contractor to build the new bridge over the M1 Princes Motorway, a new northbound onramp, the new commuter carpark and the new access road into the University of Wollongong.
