The limitations of the current network through the township of Leongatha are becoming more pronounced and with the rising freight demand, growing population, and expanding industrial activities. Stage 1 of the project constructed in 2016 redirected trucks from the town centre has resulted in most of the heavy vehicles now utilising roads adjacent to this precinct not through it as happened for decades beforehand.

At the intersection of the South Gippsland Highway, the Strzelecki Highway and the Bass Highway the trucks need to make turning manoeuvres and cause congestion to other vehicles at the intersection

Stage 2 of this project will:

• support the increasing demand for freight movement within the South Gippsland region
• improve freight efficiency and network reliability
• improved accessibility and connectivity of the road network
• improve safety within Leongatha CBD
• cater for growing South Gippsland community and increased vehicle movements
• reduce congestion and improve general travel times through Leongatha

SEATS will continue to advocate that this project receives priority for funding to create a better solution for all as soon as is possible.
