Mount Ousley Interchange progressing well
Construction on the $390m project being jointly funded by the Australian and NSW Governments is proceeding well following the holiday closedown.
Designed to primarily improve safety at the bottom of Mt Ousley on the M1 it will provide northbound access from North Wollongong onto the motorway via an overpass and will provide better separation of cars and freight vehicles. https://lnkd.in/ghAAN5NP
This section of the M1 sees 20.5m tonnes of road freight moving into and out of the Illawarra-Shoalhaven region to Sydney and the rest of the nation via Picton Rd. Commodities like coal, grain, food ingredients, stockfeeds, steel, motor vehicles and a wide range of other freight.
Picton Rd and the planned Wilton interchange to the M31 is in the planning phases by Transport for NSW and as a project is strongly supported by SEATS. Investigations are underway at Wilton to improve this major intersection as freight moves between the Illawarra-Shoalhaven, including Port Kembla, and destinations south on the Hume Motorway M31 into southern NSW, Victoria and western NSW, South and Western Australia. The northern arm of the Hume Motorway leads to Sydney and beyond.
