SEATS expresses support for Victoria’s Renewable Energy Terminal
SEATS expresses support for Victoria’s Renewable Energy Terminal to be established at Port of Hastings.
Submissions are now being assessed prior to a report being sent to the Vic Minister for Planning.
The site is situated within the Port of Hastings. It is located to the southeast of Melbourne, approximately 72 km from the Melbourne CBD. The Terminal is proposed at the Old Tyabb Reclamation Area (OTRA), and the adjacent marine waters within the port precinct. The OTRA site is located 2.6km northeast of the centre of Hastings.
The project would include landside development, land reclamation, construction of shipping berths and dredging to allow for ship access. Outside the facility, there may be potential extensions and/or upgrades required to electrical, communications, water and sewer services, and road infrastructure.
This facility is seen by SEATS to be integral to the development of the offshore renewable wind farms. SEATS in its submission was supportive of the development. SEATS agreed with the requirement of the Minister that transport and amenity issues around the development needed to be addressed. SEATS also urged that the connection by land road corridors from the facility at Hastings to other working locations within Gippsland be addressed for adequacy and impact. on other traffic, especially freight.
