Two years since new Shoalhaven River bridge at Nowra was opened

This week two years ago saw the opening of the new $342m Shoalhaven River bridge at Nowra.
Identified in the 2017 Nowra Traffic Key Roads document prepared by Shoalhaven City Council, this link has yielded an additional 2 lanes across the River and also enabled freight vehicles of higher mass limits to pass into South Nowra and beyond by removing the previous weight restrictions on HVs.

The bridge was one of a number of initiatives to relieve the traffic congestion in Nowra-Bomaderry and the whole strategy was supported by SEATS as a strategy to have freight movements pass more easily along the Princes Highway. A number of the other elements of the initiative have also been delivered including the Berry to Bomaderry upgrade of the Princes Highway ($450m) and the Far North Collector Rd ($35m).
Early design work has recently commenced on the East Nowra Sub Arterial with $12m from the NSW Government.
Still to come is the need to create 3 lanes each way on the 10kms of the Princes Highway through Nowra Bomaderry. SEATS sees this as a  priority to address the intersection treatments required at the 8 roundabouts and 8 signalised intersections within this section of the Princes Highway.
SEATS acknowledges the work that has been done and the contribution by both the Australian and New South Wales Governments to improve the situation.
More needs to be done in the interest of traffic flow and freight productivity.
